Hi all,

With the release of the Destructor (EP), I have posted one of the tracks ‘The Pariah’ as a video over on YouTube.

The Pariah is the fourth track on the record and features a blend of styles from orchestral rock to progressive metal and thrash, all with a melodic edge.

Hi all,

With the winter snow outside I am pleased to announce the release of my instrumental progressive metal EP 'Destructor'.

The Destructor (EP) is a follow up release to my 2006 debut ambient progressive instrumental rock album ‘The Theory’.

I began writing the record a while ago and over a number of years it has slowly evolved, culminating in a 5 track 25 minute long guitar led release.

Stylistically the record falls squarely within the progressive metal genre taking on wide array of influences from the heavy thrash elements of Nevermore and Arch Enemy, to the lighter proggy trip outs of Camel and King Crimson.

The EP is available for digital download at both CDBaby and iTunes, hard copies will be available for purchase from my website very soon - so watch this space.

Terminator 2 - Cover of theme song

Time for a bit of a cover – original Terminator 2 theme tune by Brad Fiedel = awesomeness, so I decided to cover it and change it up somewhat.

Staying fairly true to the original the first part is an orchestrated arrangement of the theme tune, and the second part descends into rock!

I remember the first time I watched this movie and being blown away – great 90’s memories, haha! Anyway, enough of me blabbing on about it, the video track along with the music is below: -

Destructor Music Video

Pulling one out of the back catalogues of history, a video for my progressive metal track Destructor. The track was written using a 6 string Fender Strat, with drop B tuning for extra heaviness.

Style wise the track is along the lines of bands like Meshuggah, Arch Enemy and Machine Head, featuring a tech metal based intro and then a harmony laden heavy outro similar to Master of Puppets era Metallica.

The idea for putting the track together with video footage came after watching the video ‘Duck and Cover’ at the Prelinger archives. This was a video shown to school children in the USA during the Cold War so they would know what to do if an atom bomb was ever dropped. Pretty scary stuff!

Anyway, the track is set against a mix of footage showing nuclear warhead testing, and blends well with the dark subject matter.

Hi all,

My name is Gareth Thomas – musician and noise maker from Nottingham, England. I have just completed updating my indie label website garfomusic.com to reflect some of the new music I have been working within the progressive rock and metal genre.

Garfomusic is an indie label setup to promote my varied range of music styles, which for the most part have been routed in the guitar instrumental genre, however a lot of influence from jazz and progressive rock has also shaped my sound too.

When in the mood for all things progressive there’s nothing better than kicking back with some early era King Crimson and getting absorbed in that epic sound, or maybe the somewhat overlooked band Camel, who have some really great instrumentation on their records.

Anyway, before I start showing my age I’ll refrain from delving back into the late 60’s / 70’s prog era, at least until my next post :-)
